Team Palm - What it takes to get the shot!

Shoot day - Season 2 Promo with @joshstockdalee and @alexboulton

Location - Calle Armiñán, s/n, 29400 Ronda, Málaga, Spain

Another early morning start for Josh and Alex, two of the palm band founders. 5:30am alarms are nobody's best friend especially after a few too many San Miguels the night before.

We woke up, grabbed a fresh bag of season 2 Palms, poured a strong coffee and made our way into the peaceful Malaga streets in search of our 50cc moped we had rented the the night before... 20 minutes later we were on the moped, gliding through the fresh morning air. Unknown to young British lads that Spain is actually pretty cold at 6:15am on the back of a bike... with only linen shorts and an open shirt to protect us.

With a UE boom in my hand and google maps in the other, we raced to beat the early risers out of Malaga and onto the fast road, route 7. Which would see us witness a welcoming sunrise through Puerto Banus, Marbella, Estepona and then taking a sharp right into the rural hills of the Malaga Province of Ronda. This motorbiking hotspot spoilt us with windy hairpin bends, long straights and scenic mountain pass views. Not quite the adrenaline rush on a 50cc moped. To add to this, 1 hour into the journey we both experienced painful shin cramps from the arctic-like air pounding our bare legs. Poor planning on our behalf!

Pushed on by the beautiful views and the high expectations from our prior Instagram research, we continued. The hunt for a petrol station with a working card machine or even a working Spaniard proved tough, but on the 3rd attempt, with a few miles left in the tank the trusty moped had its breakfast.

We both knew what shot we were after. With season 2 being so close, we were desperate for a new banner shot for our collection! We could picture the shot but never imagined the extent we'd have to go to.

Approaching Ronda, we were blessed with a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. I didn't even know that Puente Nuevo was a hot-spot for sunrise hot air balloon rides. One after another, after another, after another we witnessed these giants take to the skies! CONTENT GOLD!

The Puente Nuevo bridge is the newest and largest of three bridges that span the 120-metre-deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the city of Ronda, in southern Spain.

We parked up the bike, put our heavy camera bags onto our backs and proceeded to hunt down a lower view of the bridge. 20 minutes later and another coffee down, we spotted an abandoned walkway. Passing the bags through a small cut away in a "do not pass through" fence we clambered down a steep ridge walk and began to question our choice of footwear.

Looking down to our watch it is was still only 7:30am and the light was getting better and better. We could now see the location we had been hunting; an old stone ruin which spanned  5-7 metres up giving us the height needed to position a grabbing POV shot.

Setting up the gimbals, cameras and drone we began to try all the angels. I ousted Alex up onto the stone ruins, passed him our trusty Lumix S1 and we began to create something beautiful....
